Studio Ghibli founder Hayao Miyazaki is arguably one of the greatest animated filmmakers of all time. Fans of anime (new and old) are sure to have watched at least one of Miyazaki's films during his time as an animator and producer. He has recently come out of retirement to work on his latest installment, The Boy and the Heron. This is the second time he has come out of retirement to work on a final project, with his last film being The Wind Rises back in 2013. This 2023 film feels like a proper farewell, however. He put his heart and soul into all of his work. But The Boy and the Heron cuts deeper than any other movie Miyazaki has made.
