It's been 21 years since Firefly premiered, and even though the sci-fi series only managed to last one season, its impact was huge, both in the lives of the fans and its stars. That's why Nathan Fillion still has a souvenir to remember the series.

Created by Joss Whedon, the show is set in the year 2517, after humans arrive in a new star system. The story focuses on the adventures of the crew of the Serenity, a group of nine very different people who must coexist while traveling through space.

The cast was led by Nathan Fillion as Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds, owner and captain of the Serenity. He was joined by Gina Torres as Zoe Alleyne Washburne, Alan Tudyk as Hoban "Wash" Washburne, Morena Baccarin as Inara Serra, Adam Baldwin as Jayne Cobb, Jewel Staite as Kaywinnet Lee "Kaylee" Frye, Sean Maher as Simon Tam, Summer Glau as River Tam, and Ron Glass as Derrial Book.

Celebrating 21 years since the premiere of Firefly, Fillion shared an image on his X page revealing his character's famous sidearm, a souvenir he took from the set. Additionally, he asked fans to share images of their cosplay, tattoos or anything related to the show:

Even though fans have requested it countless times, Firefly has never been given a second crack of the whip, although it did get a feature film sequel entitled Serenity in 2005 and there have been rumors of Disney rebooting the franchise floating around for three years now. Fortunately, they were able to continue enjoying the work of the majority of the main cast in other popular projects. Soon they will be able to see Fillion step into the world of superheroes as he takes on a new role in James Gunn and Peter Safran's DCU.

The actor is one of the first stars that was confirmed to be joining the DC Studios franchise. After revealing the voice cast for Creature Commandos and Superman: Legacy lead stars David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, Fillion was confirmed as the new Guy Gardner aka Green Lantern.

Along with Isabela Moner (Transformers: The Last Knight) as Hawkgirl, Anthony Carrigan (Barry) as Metamorpho, and Edi Gathegi (The Harder They Fall) as Mister Terrific, Fillion joined the cast of the upcoming Man of Steel movie, where he will play one of the most popular iterations of Green Lantern and look to finally give the character some justice on the big screen.

The Firefly star has already been part of several projects from DC in the past such as 2021's The Suicide Squad or Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, in which he voiced another version of Green Lantern, Hal Jordan. He also worked alongside Gunn in the MCU in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
